Mapping Background

Wyoming is engaged in a project to map the availability of broadband connections throughout the State and to develop investment plans for enhanced broadband deployment and use.

LinkWYOMING's Interactive Broadband Map has been developed as a part of this effort.

Current Version

This version of the maps, updated in October 2013, is based on coverage information that was accurate as of June 30, 2013.

The updated map contains all the information and functionality we have collected and developed to date. Our efforts, however, are ongoing. We are seeking feedback from users and will incorporate your suggestions, when possible, into the map.

The current National Broadband Map (NBM) was updated with the latest-submitted data on February 20, 2014.

Understanding the Maps

You may find it beneficial to read a more detailed overview of the maps, read a few tips about the map's navigation tools and functionality or review a few Frequently asked Questions (FAQ) about the mapping project. These helpful resources are also available through links inside the interactive mapping tool.

Subsequent Updates

Data is requested from providers every six months, and the maps are updated after the data is normalized and verified. The next updates of Idaho's interactive maps will take place in Q2 2014. Additional information layers will be added to the maps over time that will measure demand and use of broadband across the State.

  • Mobile Broadband App

We need your help!

In an effort to ensure the most accurate measurement and mapping of state mobile broadband networks, LinkWYOMING has partnered with Mobile Pulse to provide an app that will allow us to collect and analyze mobile broadband performance across Wyoming.

You can help by installing the new LinkWYOMING mobile test app on your smart phones and tablets. The app, which runs in the background, will conduct performance tests periodically and send the anonymous test results to a secure site, which the LinkWYOMING Team can access via a web dashboard. The team will use the data to help us better understand, identify and compare performance across our state.

This data, which validates the speed and connection capabilities of mobile broadband vendors, will give state planners much needed insight into a wide range of operational issues, including how mobile applications will perform in the field.

How does this app help me, the resident?

There are several important reasons why residents may want to participate in the LinkWYOMING mobile testing app program.

    1. Results will be available to the state broadband mapping program and can be used to update maps available to the public.
    2. State planners can utilize detailed maps to communicate with wireless vendors in order to help evaluate new cell tower locations and implement public safety communication plans. When wireless networks improve, the community is safer because cellular 911 calls are clearer, emergency notifications work better, and first responders gain better access to critical field applications.
    3. Participation will ensure the mapping of connectivity and performance of wireless networks in your area of the state. While we can’t promise any specific problem area will be fixed, one can expect that any unknown problem areas will definitely not be fixed! When discrepancies are found between the wireless vendor maps and the state planner maps, the vendors are notified so they are aware of the problem.

The value of the program increases as the number of participants grows. We encourage you to support LinkWYOMING's efforts to measure mobile cellular availability across the state.
